See Why Footballers Cover Their Mouth While Talking During A Football Match

Why do football (soccer) players cover their mouths by hand while speaking both to the same and opposing team's players?

There are various reasons for the same:

So that the opposition do not understand even a word of the strategy being discussed, this can - and believe me when I say this, change matches and results.

To avoid cameras, so that the media does not conjure a syllable out of thin air. Imagine Ronaldo saying “bad luck” and the media understanding “fat f***”, you never know.

Covering your mouth and speaking limits the voice to the people around you, so that people a little further away cannot hear what is being said - so players do it to restrict any overhearing too.

Sometimes, it even avoids the media from writing about the 2 best players in the world - which can be a news for years to come, but covering your mouth restricts the media from doing that.

Maybe they want to sneeze and doing it on someone’s face would be bad publicity?

So, next time you are on a football pitch - discuss strategies like this and maybe it will make a difference.
