There is no place on Earth worst than a prison, it is where you lose your total freedom, you sleep with one eye opened and looking over your shoulders for your safety.
Some prisons in the Western World is far better than the ones we have here in Africa. Over there, a prisoner get fed three times a day, you get to enjoy your hobbies in prison and even have the opportunity to work and earn money.
This is quite the opposite here in Kirikiri prison.
Nigerian prisons is the only place in the country where all form of human rights are violated, there are rules and regulations, but no inmate is willing to keep them, and most of the prison officers are not ready to enforce them. But it shouldn't be like that, in every situation humanity should always come first no matter the offence one committed.
The aim of establishing a prison is for criminals who was found guilty of committing one crime or the other and has been sentenced to get reformed and for them to do away with their old ways of life and embrace a new and better life when they finally get released from prison, and not for them to die untimely from hunger, congestion, diseases, suffocating and other forms of abuses.
Many have died prematurely in prison because of these factors and many are as far as a broomstick due to the terrible state of living in a Nigeria prison.
Recently, the Nigeria prison (now Nigerian Correction Service) changed their name from the former to the latter in other to change people's perspective about prison life in the country, because when some people hear the word "prison", the next perception they picture in their mind is "hell", which is somehow understandable in Nigeria.
The word correction implies to get a total reformed or to totally amend your ways and embrace a new postive path in life.

This congestion is coupled with hunger and malnutrition. Feeding in a Nigerian prison is nothing to write home about. Prisoners are fed a very small portion of food which taste disastrous. If care is not taken, the food can even kill you before your time. Yet federal government allocate a lot of money to all prison in Nigeria every month.
